K. Chatzidakis: We have to free the PPC (DEH) out of its administrative straightjacket

"We have to free the Public Power Corporation (PPC-DEH) out of its administrative straightjacket," said Energy Minister Kostis Chatzidakis.

"We have to free the Public Power Corporation (PPC-DEH) out of its administrative straightjacket," said Energy Minister Kostis Chatzidakis on Monday, speaking to Athens 984 municipal radio station.

"PPC is the only corporate entity whose shares are mostly state-owned yet the company is open to (private) competition," said Chatzidakis.

Referring to the partial privatization of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDHE), the minister said privatization consultants will help with the process and propose specifics, yet he elaborated that "we are talking about a model of partial privatization, that is not happening for the first time in Greece."

Chatzidakis noted how "the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator S.A. (DESFA) was privatized by the SYRIZA government," while the Independent Power Transmission Operator S.A. (ADMIE) "is also 49 pct privatized."
