Hotels, food businesses bleed heavily in Q3

According to the data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority, the turnover of accommodation companies in the third quarter of 2020 amounted to 1.5 billion euros, showing a decrease of 61.4% compared to the third quarter of 2019.

Food and accommodation businesses lost about 3.2 billion euros in the third quarter of the year, with most damages being racked up by the accommodations sector.

More analytically, according to the data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority, the turnover of accommodation companies in the third quarter of 2020 amounted to 1.5 billion euros, showing a decrease of 61.4% compared to the third quarter of 2019, when turnover amounted to 4 billion euros.

The largest decrease in turnover in the third quarter of 2020 compared to the third quarter of 2019 was observed in the region of Karpathos (84.5%) and the smallest decrease (4.2%) was recorded in the area of Grevena, while a corresponding increase (0.6%) was recorded in the region of Florina.

Third quarter turnover for companies in the catering business amounted to 1.58 billion euros, recording a decrease of 31.2% compared to the third quarter of 2019, where it had amounted to 2,3 billion euros.

The largest decrease in turnover in the third quarter of 2020 compared to the third quarter of 2019 was observed in the region of Karpathos (69.5%), while the smallest decrease (0.8%) was recorded in Serres.

For companies in the accommodation industry, turnover in November 2020 amounted to 42.2 million euros, a decrease of 63.1% compared to November 2019, where it reached 114.6 million euros.

For the companies in the regions with a contribution to total turnover of 2019 greater than 0.5%, the largest decrease in turnover in November 2020 compared to November 2019 was observed in Thessaloniki (83.8% ) and the smallest decrease (19.8%) was recorded in the Periphery of Halkidiki, while a corresponding increase (8.4%) was recorded on the island of Kos

For catering companies, turnover in November 2020 amounted to 56.08 million euros, showing a decrease of 53.4% compared to November 2019, when it had reached 120.2 million euros. For companies of the regions with a contribution to the total turnover of 2019 greater than 0.5%, the largest decrease in the turnover in November 2020 compared to November 2019 was seen Thira (93.2%) and the smallest decrease (9.2%) was recorded in Imathia, while a corresponding increase (54.4%) was recorded at Evia.
