Four flagship investments with a combined budget of 253 million euros were approved by the Interministerial Committee for Strategic Investments, as part of the implementation of the country's new production model that was presented on October 21.

The chairman of this committee is Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos and its members are the National Economy and Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, Environment and Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis, Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, Minister of State Makis Voridis and Deputy National Economy and Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis.

As stated in a relevant announcement, these four emblematic investments, implemented through the General Secretariat of Private Investments, concern the defence industry, the self-sufficiency of Greece in paper and alcohol, and the safety of flights and civil protection services.

METLEN's strategic investment, with a budget of 45 million euros, includes new building infrastructure and specialised mechanical equipment in the area of Thessaly. The aim is to produce special metal structures with advanced technology and high added value.

The strategic investment of BGS alcohols, with a budget of 34 million euros, aims to establish an integrated unit for the production and distribution of ethyl alcohol of agricultural origin for multiple uses. The vertically integrated unit will be installed in the Business Park of Patras, while the strengthening of the domestic production of ethyl alcohol will reduce the imports of the Greek producers.

Olympic's strategic investment, with a budget of 74.75 million euros, is part of a larger investment of more than 140 million euros. It concerns the creation of an integrated aircraft and aircraft maintenance service centre, as well as a flight simulator and crew training centre within Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos".

Finally, INTERTRADE's strategic investment, with a budget of 99 million euros, which was approved in May 2023, aims to expand the capacity of an existing unit, which will be implemented in Oenofita. It seeks the functional integration of all the company's production units in one place. In addition, a central warehouse and modern distribution infrastructure is being created for the finished products and paper rolls.
