Dendias expresses Greece's desire to promote Greek investments in Ghana

Foreign Minister said that Greece is looking forward to the organisation of a forum to promote Greek investments in Ghana, referring to the presence of Greek companies that are already doing business in the country, such as the Mytilinaios Group.

Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias expressed Greece's desire to promote Greek investments in Ghana in his statements after the meeting with his Ghanaian counterpart Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey in the capital Accra, with which he completed his second visit to the West African country. The meeting was held on Thursday.

In fact, he said that Greece is looking forward to the organisation of a forum to promote Greek investments in Ghana, referring to the presence of Greek companies that are already doing business in the country, such as the Mytilinaios Group. He expressed Greece's interest in investing in Africa, noting: "Africa is the fastest growing economy, the fastest growing population in the world. So, it needs investment to go forward."

The foreign minister also expressed his particular satisfaction that Ghana is firmly committed to the International Law of the Sea, having signed UNCLOS very early on in 1983. He also noted Ghana's "solid commitment" to democracy, respect for human rights and the promotion of peace. In fact, he said Greece was very happy that Ghana was a member of the UN Security Council for the period 2022 - 2023, but also that Ghana is a member of the council which upholds the principles of International Law.

The foreign minister expressed Greece's willingness to work with Ghana on security in the Gulf of Guinea. Greece has the biggest maritime fleet in the world, he noted, pointing out that half of the grain exported by Ukraine was transported by Greek-owned ships. Consequently, he underlined, "for us security around the sea lanes of the world and the oceans of the world is of paramount importance." He also invited Ghana to actively participate in the 9th Ocean Conference, which Greece will organise in 2024, together with the United States of America.
