Greek budget showed 2.434 billion euros primary surplus in Jan-April

Tax returns totaled 2.129 billion euros, up 390 million from targets, while Public Investment Programme revenue totaled 1.756 billion euros, up 341 million from targets.

The Greek state budget recorded a primary surplus of 2.434 billion euros in the January-April period, up from a budget target for a surplus of 869 million and a primary deficit of 799 million euros in the same period last year, the finance ministry said on Monday.

In a report on budget execution on an amended cash basis, the ministry said the general government balance showed a deficit of 798 million euros in the four-month period, from a budget target for a shortfall of 3.829 billion euros and a deficit of 3.316 billion last year.

Net revenue was 21.042 billion euros, up 13.5% from targets, with tax revenue rising 10.1% to 17.870 billion euros. Tax returns totaled 2.129 billion euros, up 390 million from targets, while Public Investment Programme revenue totaled 1.756 billion euros, up 341 million from targets.

Budget spending amounted to 21.840 billion euros, down 535 million from targets and up 833 million euros from 2022. Public Investment Programme spending totaled 2.811 billion euros, down 190 million from targets.

In April, net revenue was 4.199 billion euros, up 216 million from monthly targets, with tax revenue up 4.9% to 4.261 billion. Tax returns totaled 407 million euros, up 22 million from targets, while Public Investment Programme revenue was 68 million, down 2 million from targets.
