Marinakis: PM Mitsotakis to address UN General Assembly on September 26

Marinakis said that the prime minister is expected to focus on the major global geopolitical and technological challenges, ahead of Greece taking up a seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2025-2026.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will attend the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he is to address the general assembly on September 26, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis announced during the daily press briefing on Thursday.

Marinakis said that the prime minister is expected to focus on the major global geopolitical and technological challenges, ahead of Greece taking up a seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2025-2026.

While in the United States, the prime minister will have a number of bilateral meetings with heads of state and government, give a speech to Greek expatriate organisations and meet investors to present the new landscape in Greece's economy after recovering investment grade, including the fact that Greece has the second-highest growth rate in the EU, the spokesperson added, noting that the premier's full programme will be announced at a later date.

He also referred to the important decisions regarding the 'My Home 2' taken at a meeting chaired by the prime minister, to ease the eligibility criteria and include more applicants. He said the aim of the two-billion-euro programme was to allow approximately 20,000 citizens to acquire their own home with a monthly mortgage payment that was lower than the equivalent rent for the same property.

Regarding a visit by National Defence Minister Nikos Dendias to France for the launch of the Greek frigate "Nearchos" by Naval, he said the minister had visited the Hellenic Navy Unit stationed at Naval's shipyard in Lorient and was briefed by the commander on the programme for launching the Belh@rra frigates.

"With the launch of the 'Nearchos', Greece is taking yet another important step in the strategic plan for modernising its naval forces. The power and advanced systems on the Belh@rra frigates are expected to sharply upgrade the level of the Hellenic Navy's deterrent power and with the inclusion of a total of three ships of this class, the Greek fleet will acquire comparative advantages in naval operations, in order to successfully carry out its enhanced role for security and stability in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean," Marinakis said. The spokesperson then referred to a number of social policy actions and benefits to support families with three or more children, as well as sundry actions taken during the week.
